About Me

Direct yet conceptual. Provocative and engaging. Design & illustration for brands, publications, and people.

Hi. I’m Saeyun.

I am a multidisciplinary designer, a graduate of the School of Visual Arts (SVA) with a BFA in Interaction Design based in Mission Bay, San Francisco.

Even before I was an undergraduate student, I had always been intrigued by entertainment arts, such as games, movies, and animation. This led me to spend the first three years of my college life studying visual effects at the Academy of Arts, San Francisco. During my studies, I was attracted to the way arts act as a medium for people to interact indirectly with the artists and with each other. This new interest made me want to design this valuable interaction that people experience through this process. However, the time spent in visual effects was not a waste of time; while constructing visual effects turned out to be more tedious work behind the scenes than I had expected, I gained perseverance from being involved in this process. You may have also noticed that my former interest in entertainment arts, which enjoying them is my current major hobby, is expressed throughout my portfolio.

After those three years, I transferred to SVA to delve more into the new passion that I had found. I mainly focused on creating projects that connect different groups of people together, such as “Online Crew” (displayed as one of my works in this portfolio). I was surprised at the amount of eagerness I found in myself to learn and understand how people think and behave. Gaining insight into what unmet needs people have, how they interact with each other, and thinking of an invisible, yet crucial component that can be designed to smooth out their connections was itself a natural intrinsic motivation for me. I believe that the way I enjoy understanding people is what contributes to my abilities to lead or work on a project as a team.

Overall, I am a person full of curiosity who is passionate about what I do. It would be a great pleasure to step out of my comfort zone as a student and learn from the various experiences of human interactions as a junior designer.

Meantime while I’m taking a break, I love playing TCG games. Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh are my favorites. If you are also a TCG gamer, tell me your favorite deck.
